Basic Automotive Electrical PDF Print E-mail

This course will introduce you to the principles of electricity, and electrical test equipment. If you would like to learn about basic electrical circuits, calculate Ohm’s Law, distinguish and construct a series, parallel, and a series-parallel circuit, than this is the right course for you. (Course length: 3.0 to 6.0 hours.)

Course Topics
Principles of Electricity

  • Name the units of measure used in electricity
  • Identify the relationship between current and load (resistance) in basic electrical circuits
  • Demonstrate Ohm’s law in measuring voltage, resistance, and current

Electrical test Equipment

  • DVOM
  • Test light
  • Analog meters
  • Test probes

Electrical Circuit Devices

  • Identify the basic elements of an electrical circuit
  • Describe the operation of various components in an electrical circuit

Basic Electrical Circuits

  • Demonstrate the ability to distinguish between the three basic electrical circuits (series, parallel, and series-parallel)
  • Construct all three basic electrical circuits

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Identify characteristics of conductors and insulators
  • Measure voltage, resistance, and current
  • Recognize proper use of common electrical test
